Our School Day and After School

Our School Day and After School Provision

Start of the day

At Portway, we are committed to raising standards in achievement, attendance and punctuality.

Each morning, the school gates open at 8:30am.  Children make their way into school, where they  will enter into their classrooms independently – ensuring that they are in class by 8:40 am, when teachers will take the daily morning register.  Children not in their classrooms by 8:40am are marked as late on the register.

At Portway, alongside our primary provision, we have both a nursery provision, and Portway Pre School, for our 2 year old children.  The start times, end times and arrival/departure location are described on the table below.

Breaks and lunch times

Morning Break

Reception – Year 2: 09.45am – 10.00am

Years 3 – 6: 10.30am – 10.45am

Lunchtimes

Reception – Year 2: 11.45am – 12.30pm

Years 3 – 6: 13.00pm – 13.45pm

Afternoon Break

Reception – Year 2: 13.30pm – 13.45pm

End of the day

The school day ends at the following times:

Reception – Year 3: 3:10pm

Years 4 – 6: 3.20pm

We ask that all families arrive promptly to collect their children, and wait outside the main gate in Stratford Road until it is opened at 3:10pm.  We ask that a parent/carer/older sibling collect all children other than those in years 5 and 6, who we do allow to leave unaccompanied.

Children who have not been collected by 3:20pm/3.30pm will be taken to the school office, and their families will be contacted.

Nursery

In our nursery, children are registered for a morning session, an afternoon session or an all day session.  These run as follows:

Morning session:         8.30 – 11.30am

Afternoon session:      12:10 – 3:10pm

All day session:             8:30am – 3:10pm

Drop off and collection are as per the locations in the table above.

Pre School

In our Pre-School, children are registered for either a morning or an afternoon session.  These run as follows:

Morning session:         8.30 – 11.30am

Afternoon session:      12:30 – 3:30pm

We have a limited number of spaces available for full-time places from 8.30am until 3.30pm.

Drop off and collection are as per the locations in the table above.

Wrap Around Care and Extra Curricular Clubs

Each term the school has an extensive range of extra curricular clubs. Please contact the school office to sign your child up today!
