Ethos and Vision

Ethos and Vision

Our Purpose

We believe that our core purpose as a school is not only to help your children succeed academically but also to teach them about the wider world and their role in the future. We want children to learn today the knowledge and skills required to be able to transform tomorrow.

Therefore, at Portway, we have one simple statement that encapsulates our vision:

Learning today, transforming tomorrow

We try to live our vision through our learning every day by focusing on five vision principles:

  • Communication

Our school community empowers ourselves and others to listen and use our voices so that we can reflect and express our thoughts and feelings.

  • Collaboration

Our school community grows by growing effective relationships with others, enabling all to build success together.

  • Care

Our school community shows care in what we do with and for each other, so that our children are motivated to be kind and respectful and contribute positively to the world.

  • Choice

Our school community prioritises the skill of choice – making and helps all to understand the impact of our choices on ourselves and others.

  • Commitment

Our school community encourages the dedication, resilience and responsibility needed for everyone to be the best they can be.

Our school is part ofĀ Newham Community Learning; theĀ About Us pageĀ outlines how our schools work in a collaborative partnership, whilst each retaining our distinct ethos and identity.
